Eligibility for Sports

CCA Eligibility Policy
for 5th and 6th Grade

• Eligibility is based on turning in work and behavior.
• Students have until 1:00 p.m. Friday to get any missing assignments turned in.
• The first time that work is not turned in by 1:00 p.m. on Friday, the student will receive a warning letter. At this time they will still be able to play.
• The second time that work is not turned in by 1:00 p.m. on Friday, the student will receive a letter saying that they are ineligible for the next week.
• Warning and ineligible letters will be sent home with students on Friday. Students are responsible for hand delivering these notices to their parents.
• If a student has more than one teacher, warning and ineligibility status will be kept track of separately.
• After a student has been deemed ineligible three times, they will no longer be able to participate in the sport.

HABITS OF MIND
Students throughout their elementary years will learn the following dispositions called “Habits of Mind” that reflect the belief that ability is a continuously expandable repertoire of skills and that through a student’s efforts, intelligence grows incrementally.
Habits of Mind indicate that behavior requires discipline of the mind that is practiced so it becomes a habitual way of working toward more thoughtful, intelligent action.

CHAMPs PROGRAM
At Crossroads Charter Academy Elementary, students work and play within a structure
of expectations in order to be the best they can be. This structure is called CHAMPs.
CHAMPs is a set of guidelines that specifically teaches students what is expected of
them in all situations. The CHAMPs acronym stands for:
(C) Conversation - How do students communicate during the activity?
(H) Help - How can students get questions answered during the activity?
(A) Activity - What is the task/objective of the activity?
(M) Movement - How do students move about during the activity?
(P) Participation - What does appropriate student behavior for the activity look like or sound like?

The staff at Crossroads Elementary has developed CHAMPs expectations for all common areas within the building. Each classroom has a specific set of CHAMPs expectations for how to function within the classroom.

Dear 6th Grade Parents & Students,

You may be wondering what Market Day is all about and what is appropriate for the children to sell. The following lists are a set of guidelines to help your children and you decide what is appropriate. Market Day is designed as part of our economic program to develop responsible students and future entrepreneurs.

Parents are encouraged to attend, but the students must run the businesses. Parents are to be shopping only; this will encourage the students to do the job for which Market Day was designed. We would like your child to gain as much independence in the process as we can. We will provide you with money to shop. You are required to return any left over money you have not used at the end of the sale.

The students are required to fill out the following simple form for teachers to approve. The idea must be described and submitted no later than the day before Market Day. The teacher has the right to approve or disapprove the project. Projects will not be denied if they are appropriate and completely homemade or hand crafted. If a student does not turn in their paper the day before Market Day and they show up with products that do not meet homemade approval, they will not be allowed to sell their product.

If at any time you have a question about a product your child wants to sell, please contact your homeroom teacher.

Market Day Rules

Market Day

• Students are not allowed to sell items prior to market day.
• Parents will be given money to spend, but they must return any unspent money to the homeroom teacher.
• Students are responsible for their own money and giving change to customers.
• One class will shop at a time while the other one is selling, and then they will switch.
• Mr. Nawrot will announce the switch.
• Plastic bags will be available if needed.
• The cafeteria needs to be COMPLETELY clean and all tables need to be put away at the end of market day. Students are responsible for their own area. Do not leave until your area is checked and approved by your classroom teacher.
• Tell your parents that if they do not spend all of their money, they have to give it back to their student’s teacher (students may not accept money from their parents).
• Running and goofing off will not be permitted.
• Playing with food will not be permitted.
• Market Day is a privilege, which can be taken away from individuals or the entire class. Please follow all the rules.
• Keep your money out of plain sight at all times. You may deposit your money into the bank again next week.

1. Mrs. Kreh will ask the class to clean up.
2. Write assignments in your planner.
3. After your planner is complete, take what you need out of your crate and organize your crate.
4. Put your chair away.
5. Do your job.
6. When you are ready, raise your hand, and when you are called please come to Mrs. Kreh’s desk.
7. You sign Mrs. Kreh’s sheet as she signs your planner.
8. Go to your seat and organize your homework, signed sheets for Mrs. Kreh, and put your books away.
9. Walk to the door and wait in line to go to your locker. (FIVE ALIVE)
10.Return to your desk and stand behind it until dismissal.

1. Stop at your locker to hang your coat.
2. Empty what you need for class and place your backpack in your locker.
3. Take off any hoodies or non-CCA sweatshirts.
4. Enter the classroom.
5. Place your books & items on your desk.
6. Sign the clipboard under the correct column for lunch.
7. Go to your seat and organize your homework, give signed sheets to Mrs. Kreh, and put your books away.
8. Have a seat and look for directions on the board. (If there are no directions, please AR read, read Open Court, or write in your journal.)

Math Curriculum

Dear Sixth Grade Parents,

As a math educator, I would like to let you know about some of the procedures we will be using in my classroom on a daily basis. Although all of the areas of the curriculum are important to the growth and development of your child, math is one area that needs special attention. By sixth grade, students are expected to know their addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division facts. If they do not, their progress will be greatly hindered. Please work with your child if they have not memorized the facts. Students will especially need to know their multiplication facts because we will be spending much time on fractions and decimals.

You also need to know that your child may have either John Nawrot or Marcie Hanks for a math teacher instead of me. Although we are teaching the same curriculum to all the children, our styles may vary. We hope to have the math class in place by Monday the second week of school.

I will be giving a test the first day of school to determine your child’s needs. Your child will be using the Prentice Hall Course II book. I will teach and monitor your child’s progress to provide your child with the best opportunity for building their math skills. Last year if your child was in 5th grade at CCA, he/she used the Saxon textbook for math. At the 6th grade level, Prentice Hall is a challenging curriculum, but it is organized in chapters for clarity and consistency. Please anticipate an adjustment period in the first quarter due to these changes.

It is vital that your child completes all classroom and homework assignments on time, as they will be graded. I will provide answers to the homework assignments on the overhead projector the next day for your child to review and make corrections after checking to ensure he/she has completed the assignment. Points will be given daily for each completed homework assignment, and points will not be awarded for homework assignments not completed or missing, affecting the overall grade.

After 4 or 5 lessons in the book, a quiz will be given as an assessment tool. A test will be given after each of the twelve chapters, as well as at the end of the quarter and half way through the year. These assessment tools will determine whether or not your child is progressing adequately. He/she will also receive cumulative reviews after each chapter. Sample tests can be found on line for your child to take, and I strongly encourage them to do so. The website address for these tools is www.phschool.com. The book has web codes that can be entered onto the homepage.
